Šibenik

The Renaissance town was already founded in the 9th century to the place where Krka River meets the Adriatic Sea. It is famous for its Children’s Festival since 1960, the festival is held every year in June or July. While we were walking on the streets, all of them were decorated with lovely handmade portraits of children. St. James Cathedral is the most famous of its sights and it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. You can also enjoy the sun and the cool water, if that is what you are looking for at the public beach called Banj.

Practical tips for your visit:
First of all, the town can be easily reached from Zadar or from Trogir.
If you arrive by car, you have to leave it at a public car park next to the sea and the casinos and continue your journey by foot.
There are a lot of steps so make sure you wear comfortable shoes.
And have a lot of water with you. You will need it, believe me.
If you decide to book your accomodation in Sibenik, you can take daily trips to either Kornati Islands or to Krka National Park.

Although we only spent an afternoon here, I advise you to visit these things:
St. James Cathedral with the Statue of Jurac Dalmatinac
St. Lawrence Church and Monastry with the Mediterranean Garden
St. Michael’s Fortress
The Count’s Palace
St. Anne’s Fortress
Church of St. Barbara
St. Anne’s Fortress
Town Hall
Channel Harbour

Šibenik and Game of Thrones
Bet you didn’t know that this town is one of the places where GoT was shot! It appeared in season 5 as a city of Braavos. Arya Stark can be seen running in front of the St. James Cathedral, which served as the House of the Many Faced God. You can also see Mandroc as the port of Braavos.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

‘Let me give you some advice. Assume everyone will betray you. And you will never be disappointed.’ /Beckett in Solo/

What is this movie about?
Han (played by Alden Ehrenrecih), a theif at Corellia tries to find his way out of the enslaving power with his love, Qi’ra (played by Emilia Clarke). To achieve that he has to collect coaxium, the ‘superfuel’. When they almost escape, Qi’ra gets caught. Han joins the Imperial Flight Academy but gets expelled so he joins tobias Beckett (played by Woodie Harrelson) and his pack of thieves. His goal all through is to find and rescue Qi’ra.

What did I like about this movie?
It was great to finally see how Han and Chewbacca first met and became best friends, how he won the Millenium Falcon and what was his personality like before he got his macho attitude that we all know so well.
I also liked Paul Bettany, who playes the bad guy in the movie (and Vision in Avengers) and Emilia Clarke (The Mother of Dragons in Game of Thrones), the first love of Han.
So all in all it was a hoot and a half for nerdie people.

To whom would I recommend this movie?
To all the Star Wars fans of course, but even to those, who want to have a fun time watching a sci-fi movie.
I recommend you to watch in 3D, because the scenery is spectacular.

Game of Thrones meets Star Wars
Emilia Clarke (a.k.a. Khaleesi, the Mother of Dragons) plays Qi’ra, Han’s love in the movie. Although she is not the only GoT character who got into this franchise as well! Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) is also Captain Phasma in The Force Awakens. Obara (Keisha Castle-Hudges) and Nymeria Sand (Jessica Henwick) appeared in Revenge of the Sith and The Force Awakens. Even Jojen Reed (Thomes Brodie-Sangster) gets his one minute of fame as a soldier.

My favourite sequels and series

‘Although I couldn’t find a great quote, I wish to continue this wonderful tradition in my last favourites concerned post.’ /Lady Fraise, the Great/

Why do we watch series? Because we are trapped in the web of the Netflix Spider? Or we find them more entertaining then our own lives? Or is it just a good form of entertainment? I’m not writing this to decide, I just want to make a list of all my favourites:

Friends /Classic sitcom, iconic characters with iconic quotes. I can never get bored of it, even after watching it the tenth time./

Big bang theory /Science version of Friends. I have a place for both of them in my heart./

House /Best hospital series ever. Even though when everything is lupus./

Versailles /My newest favourite about Loius XIV. Amazing costumes, amazing actors./

Game of Thrones /Never get attached to any of the characters, or you will have your heart broken./

Gotham /How the little Bruce Wayne became Batman in the dark city of Gotham./

Vikings /Violence and blood everywhere but the characters will make you care./

Stranger things /This year’s other great discovery! A story set in the 1980s with awesome child actors./

White collar /Art crime is the best kind of crime. Mainly if Matt Bomer is in it! :D/

Gilmore girls /My favourite family and romantic series./

The Tudors /The story of Henry VIII’s wives./

The Borgias /Jeremy Irons plays the Borgia Pope and Francois Arnaud plays his son, Cesare Borgia. The family, that is surrounded by myths./

On the spot /Documentary series made by a Hungarian couple, Eszter Cseke and S. Takács András that wone the Gold Plaque in Monte Carlo. They shot about tribes, warrior, dictator’s children and births around the world. It is great to get to know people’s stories from all around the world./
